A Tarrant County court has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for his role in a 2022 street racing crash that killed three people , District Attorney Phil Sorrells’ office said in a statement Thursday.

Nelson Ramirez, who was 19 at the time of the crash, struck the victims’ car while he was racing another pickup truck on River Oaks Boulevard/Texas 183, northwest of Fort Worth, in November 2022, according to the River Oaks Police Department.

Ramirez, now 21, was driving at 93 miles per hour when he crashed. The limit on that particular stretch of road is 40 mph, the District Attorney’s Office said.

Cindy Griffin, 37, and Madison Lake, 17, died at the scene of the accident.

Lake’s boyfriend, 20-year-old Bishop Kline , was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The second suspect, believed to have been racing Ramirez, was a minor at the time of the accident, so his name was not released, authorities said.

“I lost these 2 beautiful girls tonight, because of some teens wanting to race their trucks down the road,” Keith Lake, the father of Madison and the boyfriend of Griffin, wrote in a Facebook post at the time of the accident. “I lost my 17 yr old daughter and the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”

Ramirez pleaded guilty in April to manslaughter and racing on a highway and he was sentenced at a hearing Monday in Criminal District Court No. 1. He could have faced a maximum of 20 years per count or probation at the minimum.
