Working from home will be extra distracting this month — we're living vicariously through the hundreds of Americans competing in the Paris Olympics.

    • The Texas contingent includes 43 athletes, at least 14 of whom are from Dallas-Fort Worth.

The latest: Gymnastics, swimming, basketball, soccer and tennis were among the competitions that began over the weekend — with Team USA winning 12 medals, more than any other country so far.

    • North Texan Nic Fink tied for a silver medal in the men's 100m breaststroke. His wife won a gold medal in the 2016 Olympics and coaches swimming at SMU.
    • Texan Simone Biles crushed it over the weekend. Hezly Rivera, whose family moved from New Jersey so she could train in Plano, also made her debut as the 2024 U.S. delegation's youngest athlete .

Here are some of this week's events for our local stars …

🚣 Rowing: Hockaday School alumna Teal Cohen's women's quadruple sculls team will compete in a repechage Monday for a shot at the finals.

🎾 Tennis: Austin Krajicek and his men's doubles partner, Hady Habib, play Australia on Monday.

🤸 Gymnastics: Team USA's women's final is Tuesday. We'll be watching to see if Rivera will get to be part of the team competition.

🏐 Volleyball: Chiaka Ogbogu, a Coppell native who was on the 2021 Olympics gold-winning team, plays Wednesday in a women's volleyball preliminary match .

🏌️ Tennis: Scottie Scheffler, the world's top golfer, is looking to win an Olympic medal. Men's golf starts Thursday.

👟 Running: Carter High School's Sha'Carri Richardson met Cardi B and was featured in a Google commercial that aired during the Opening Ceremony broadcast. Her 100m competition starts Friday.

🔫 Skeet shooting: Vincent Hancock, who trains at his shooting sports facility in Denton County, is looking to win his fourth gold medal. The men's skeet shooting events are on Friday and Saturday.

    • Skeet shooter Austen Smith, of Keller, studied aerospace engineering at UT Arlington. The women's skeet shooting events are on Saturday and Sunday.
