Special helpers in the 103rd Fortuna Rodeo Parade

The 103rd Fortuna Rodeo kicked off this weekend with the parade on Main Street. The stars of the parade were the Grand Marshalls, the Strehl’s.

Larry Doss of Ming Tree Realtors, whose wagon the Strehl’s rode in for the parade, spoke to Redwood News about the occasion.

“We’re in Fortuna for the 2024 Rodeo Parade, and we’re celebrating,” Doss said. “And riding with us today is the Strehl family, long time of Fortuna, business and business leaders in the community, so we’re excited to have them.”

But someone has to pull the carriage—meet Turbo and Buddy.

“Got Turbo and Buddy pulling the wagon,” Doss said. “Turbo and Buddy have been with us for a long time.”

While they look similar, they’re actually different types of horses. Turbo is a Shire and Buddy is a Clydesdale, both rare and giant breeds. Bringing them out to events like this brings a smile to people’s faces.

“It’s one of the things that we do for the love of the horses, to help promote agriculture,” Doss said. “Always make sure that’s the important part of what we’re doing, And it brings our family together to do these events.”

Turbo and Buddy are part of the Bigfoot Thunder Hitch Team when they compete.
