Pizza Hut is giving away 1 million free pizzas

Reading is fundamental, but it can also be filling.

Pizza Hut has announced plans to give away 1 million free pizzas as part of National Book Month . The company’s Book It! Program will give a free personal pan pizza to anyone—children or adults. And this time, you don't even have to read a book (but why pass up that luxury?).

To get the free pie, you’ll need to checkout either online or via the company’s app and have a minimum purchase of $8. Use the code BOOKIT40 to add the personal pan pizza to the order.

This marks 40 years of Pizza Hut being a booster of National Book Month. Traditionally, children who reach a certain reading goal would get a certificate for the free pizza as part of the company’s Book It! program. This promotion is in addition to that.

The company estimates that since 1984, it has given away more than 1.5 billion pizzas to young readers (ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade) via this program—and between 2013 and 2023, it gave away more than 56 million.

If a personal pan pizza won’t fill you up, the company is also bundling two large one-topping pizzas with breadsticks and contributing a portion of the price of that combination to the Book It! program.

“I’m incredibly proud of what the Book It! program has achieved over the past four decades," said Pizza Hut U.S. President Carl Loredo in a press release. "It’s inspired more than 70 million children to discover the magic of books, helping to build a lifelong love of reading . As we’re celebrating 40 years, we’re excited to invite readers of all ages to rediscover the joy of reading—one book (and pizza) at a time.”

The free pizza code is effective immediately and good through the end of the month or until the chain has given away 1 million pizzas.
