The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory and excessive heat warning through 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 24. Temperatures are expected to be well above average with moderate to major heat risk. Tuesday is forecasted to be the warmest day with a forecast of 92 degrees. Potential Thunderstorm activity may occur late Tuesday into Wednesday. The Foothills area will be the greatest area of risk if thunderstorms materialize.

Jerry Miller, Moby Grape founding guitarist, has died
Jerry Miller, guitarist and founding member of ’60s San Francisco scene psych-rock greats Moby Grape, died on Sunday at age 81. No cause of death was given. Born July 10, 1943 in Tacoma, Miller began playing guitar in local groups by the late-’50s, was friends with Jimi Hendrix, and played on an early version of Bobby Fuller’s classic “I Fought the Law.” He formed The Frantics with drummer Don Stevenson and, after meeting Jerry Garcia, relocated the band to San Francisco. It was there Miller and Stevenson met bassist Bob Mosley, and with the addition of former Jefferson Airplane member Skip Spence and Peter Lewis — making this a three-guitarist group — Moby Grape were born.
‘Lake Walking, Revolutionary Talking,’ a Karla Brundage choreopoem
Bay Area poet, activist and educator Karla Brundage introduces “Lake Walking, Revolutionary Talking,” a mold breaking, interactive multimedia performance set in Oakland’s beloved Lake Merritt. On Aug. 9-10, audiences can experience Brundage’s latest work at the Black Arts Movement House (BAM House) in Oakland. The work is based on the third anthology of poems generated by the Bay Area based international poetry exchange program, West Oakland to West Africa (WO2WA), Black Rootedness: 54 Poets from Africa to America, published by Elyssar Press. The new experimental performance piece centers the voices of Ghanaian, Nigerian and Oakland poets, affirming, “It’s not taboo to go back for what you left behind”.
