FOSTER, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after several chunks of rat poison were found precariously placed on top of the fences at a Foster dog shelter Monday morning.

Vintage Pet Rescue believes the chunks were placed there on purpose “so they would fall into our yards where the dogs are,” according to a social media post .

“We’re still trying to process why someone would do this,” the shelter wrote. “I can’t put into words how upset we are over this. Who would do this to a senior dog rescue? We’re honestly blown away by this level of evil.”

Volunteers caught one of the dogs trying to eat one and rushed him to the veterinarian immediately, according to the shelter.

That dog will be OK thanks to their quick response, the shelter added, but will need medication for the next three weeks.
