Yeargain: Elect positive, forward thinking candidates

Fountain Hills is at a crossroads. That is obvious just by looking at the campaign signs around town. There is the angry group that installs weirdly hateful signs, designed to alarm voters. Their theme is fear and distrust. That attitude will not take us to a good place.

As we face this critical moment, I prefer the candidates that are positive and forward thinking, who consider this community an absolute gem with lots of potential. They see room for balanced growth and want to promote Fountain Hills as the perfect place to raise a family or enjoy your retirement.

We have two of these candidates working for us currently. Peggy McMahon is a long-time resident who has served this community in many capacities. Dedicated and compassionate, she has been an excellent representative for us and a super ambassador for Fountain Hills. Mayor Ginny Dickey, who has also resided here for decades and served in a multitude of volunteer jobs, has demonstrated her exceptional ability to work with everyone. Ginny excels at common sense leadership. We need to retain her experience, balance and optimism to get us past this crossroads.

Two newcomers are also appealing: Clayton Corey and Henry Male seem to be bright, optimistic and happy to serve. I will enjoy hearing their creative input at council meetings.

These four individuals won’t necessarily agree with each other – they don’t have a shared national agenda or future political aspirations – but hopefully they will take us forward in a thoughtful and balanced manner. That’s what will be most helpful as we meet this crossroads.
