Representatives from Bob’s Free Bikes were presented with a $2,000 grant from the Four Peaks Rotary Foundation at the club’s regularly scheduled meeting July 25.

Bob’s Free Bikes Operations Manager Mark Jordan said the organization has already given away 820 bikes this year and expects to give more than 1,000 by the end of the year, according to a press release.

Jordan thanked Four Peaks Rotary for the grant and said, “It helps us keep the lights on and buy parts for the bikes to give to the kids.”

Bob’s Free Bikes provides bikes for any child 18 years old and younger in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area who would otherwise not be able to have one.

Founded by the late Robert Paul “Bob” Mandel in his garage, Mandel believed every child should experience the responsibility, excitement and freedom that comes with owning a bike.

At the July 25 club meeting, Four Peaks Rotary also congratulated Four Peaks Rotary Foundation President Scott Sommer as the club’s most recent Paul Harris Fellow.

Named after the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris Fellows are individuals who have contributed or who have had contributions made in their name of $1,000 or more to the Rotary Foundation.

Four Peaks Rotary meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6:45 a.m. at the Fountain Hills Community Center.
