Born Joann Crystal March on January 9, 1947, to John and Helen (Halaja) March, Chris passed away on August 4, 2024.
Chris grew up in McKees Rocks, PA and graduated from Stowe High School in 1964. She graduated from dental hygiene school in 1966 and worked as a hygienist for 10 years, which inspired her to attend the University of Pittsburg to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1976. A trailblazer as a woman in dentistry at the time, Chris continued with her studies at Pitt and received an advanced degree of Master of Dental Science (MDS) in 1979.
Chris trained with Nobel Biocare, one of the pioneers in implant reconstruction. She received her Certificate of Prosthodontics in 1978 and was a Fellow in the American Academy of Prosthodontics.
She practiced dentistry in Pittsburg, then Chicago, and in Fountain Hills, when she relocated to Arizona in 2005, focusing on geriatric dentistry and dental implants. Later she became a sought-after expert witness in legal cases regarding personal injury and dental malpractice.
Chris married the love of her life, John Hasenmiller, in 1981. She is survived by John, her stepson Jeff and his son Jordan, and countless family and friends, along with her four beloved cats, Takoda, Sonny, Sammy and Poppy.
She and John together supported many philanthropic causes, including cat rescue and art focused endeavors. Chris was a volunteer and financial supporter of the Fearless Kitty Rescue working as an adoption counselor in Fountain Hills since its inception in 2012. In her final year, she spearheaded a senior cat care and adoption program, Silver Whiskers.
Those who knew Chris can attest to the passion she brought to every endeavor. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at time and place to be determined.
