SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Boxing Gym will hold a lemonade stand Saturday to fundraise for a girls travel team to compete at the All Women’s Tournament in Auburn. According to Rick Welliver, the founder of Spokane Boxing, the fundraiser will help young athletes travel across the state to compete alongside other boxers throughout Washington.

Man attempts to hitch ride on semi truck merging onto freeway
SPOKANE, Wash. – A man attempted to hitch a ride on the back of a semi truck merging onto the freeway near downtown Spokane Friday. According to Washington State Patrol, the man jumped on the truck near the Thor/Freya onramp. Troopers pulled the semi over on the freeway. Just as the truck began to stop, the man jumped from the vehicle and climbed up the freeway barrier, running away from troopers.
Jimenez powers Whitworth to season-opening sweeps
WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Ella Jimenez had 30.5 points to lead Whitworth volleyball to a pair of 3-0 wins on Friday in the season-opening Whit Classic hosted by Whitman College. Jimenez had eight kills in a 29-27, 27-25, 25-18 win over UC Santa Cruz in the season opener for both teams. She had 14 kills in a 36-34, 25-22, 25-13 win over Redlands later in the day.

Spokane school zone speed cameras turn on after Labor Day
SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Public Schools first day back to class is next Tuesday, and with it comes eight speed cameras designed to slow traffic near schools. The cameras will fine anyone going more than eight miles per hour over the speed limit, and Sergeant Teresa Fuller with the Spokane Police Department said this program works in preventing speeding.
