QUAPAW, Okla. — Damage to the Quapaw School District’s buildings has delayed students’ return to class for a week – and maybe longer.

Storms rolled through the Four States Friday night causing widespread damage

Quapaw Superintendent David Carriger said it’s a “tentative” plan to have school start on August 26.

The school lost the roof of the elementary school gymnasium, five heating and air conditioning units, lights and power to the athletic field’s scoreboard. Some bus windows were destroyed, and fencing around the school was also damaged.

Carringer said structural engineers were at the school on Monday inspecting the elementary school gymnasium.

The National Weather Service forecasted primarily sunny weather on Monday with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures in Ottawa County are between 80 and 88 degrees, and northeast winds are 5 to 10 mph.
