RIVERTON, KS — Much improved from their 1-8 record in 2022, Riverton football went 6-4 last season under head coach Danny Weaver.

Entering 2024, Weaver returns a strong and experienced offensive line. While the Rams look solid in the trenches, fans can expect many changes at the skills positions. The Rams will be without starters: Loch North, Ryder Phillips, Zach Feldkamp, and Ryder Goodman this season.

Junior Cale Forbes will step into the lead role at quarterback, while seniors Landon Livingston and Cody Wagner will split time at the tailback position. Weaver said he is confident in his offensive line to set the tone.

“If we have a good senior-lead line, we feel like a good group of sophomores and juniors sprinkled in can be really effective,” said Weaver.

“We’re really excited about our sophomore and junior group that we have coming in. They’re pretty explosive, and we think with those guys having an opportunity to get behind that senior line, we can have the same type of success as in 2023.”

Senior lineman Gavin Boyes emphasized an advantage for his group in that they’ve been playing together for many years.

“We’re going on our third year together as a line, and we’ve got a lot of guys who want to work hard,” said Boyes.

“These guys want to go forward. We got in the weight room and got better because we wanted to win those big games.”

Landon Livingston, a senior running back for Weaver’s group, said he looked up to last year’s class.

“I looked up to a lot of the seniors last year, and just how they carry themselves,” said Livingston.

“You want to try to be like them, but part of you just has to be yourself. It’ll be fun getting to take that role they left and carry on what they started.”

The Rams will open up their season on the road against Baxter Springs on Friday, September 6th, at 7 p.m.
