NEOSHO, MO — After head coach Brandon Taute’s group went 1-9 last season, the Wildcats are looking to build on their returning playmakers.

Cade Spiva returns for his senior season, but in a much more critical role at the quarterback position, as Quenton Hughes graduated last year. Spiva will be joined in the backfield by star running back Denver Welch, and will have a big weapon returning in senior wide receiver Hudson Williams.

On the defensive side, Trey Hardin will return after a stellar junior season for the Wildcats at the linebacker position. With tremendous potential for a big year, Hardin said he’s focusing on taking things one day at a time.

“The goal is just to take it one day at a time,” said Hardin.

“We’re going to come out everyday, work hard, and trust our guys to work together as a team. We’re trying to move away from last year, and use the struggles from last season as motivation.”

Heading into the season, Taute said he’s focused on the positive aspect of his group having extensive experience as the Wildcats head into week one.

“This is the first class I’ve had for four years here at Neosho,” said Taute.

“They understand the standard, and live through it everyday. They’ve done a great job bringing those underclassmen with them, and so we bring back a ton of experience and confidence.”

Neosho opens its season at Glendale on Friday, August 30th at 7 p.m.
