AURORA, MO – High school softball is starting to ramp up in the Four State area as the Aurora Lady Houns hosted their annual Kick-Off Classic Tournament.

The Tournament consisted of the hosts, Hillcrest, and Seneca.

In Game 1, The Hillcrest Hornets matched up against the Lady Houns.

Starting things off throughout the first two innings, Aurora trailed 7-4. Ish Martinez stepped up to the plate to continue the offensive momentum for the Hornets, popping one high in the air to first base. However, a miscommunication from first and second base resulted in Martinez making it all the way over to third.

Next batter up, Camryn Summers attempted to get on base as well with two outs. She lined one up straight back to pitcher Abby Williams who made the play to first base and closed out the inning in the field for Aurora.

In the next pair of innings, McKenzie Morgan tried to find the gap but Camryn Summers got the stop to prevent a deep hit. Summers would then over throw first base, which sent Bailey Lower home for a Aurora run.

Aurora got as close as tying it up 8-8, but Hillcrest answered down the stretch with Riley Barr powering a shot past short, heading on over to first base.

Hydee Plye would sprint home and Martinez would follow for a two RBI hit from Barr as Hillcrest went on to capture Game 1 by a score of 11-8.

Hillcrest will appear next at home September 3rd at 4pm versus Norwood, while Aurora will travel to Branson.
