CARL JUNCTION, MO — McDonald County Mustangs softball shut out Carl Junction to spoil the Bulldogs home opener, 7-0.

The Mustangs struck first courtesy of a Peyton Alumbaugh double in the second inning. The freshman plated two runs to give McDonald County an early 2-0 lead. Later on, in the same inning, Kearston Hopkins sent a lined shot to C.J.’s Addy Purvis at first base to score a run on the RBI ground out.

Alumbaugh was credited with four RBI on the day for the Mustangs, as her two hits helped propel McDonald County to the road win. In the circle, junior Dakota O’Brien went seven innings, allowed five hits, and struck out three as she was credited with the win.

Up next, McDonald County will travel to take on Joplin on Thursday, September 5th at 5 p.m. and Carl Junction will travel to Cassville to take on the Wildcats on Monday, September 9th at 4:30 p.m.
