    Schmitt, Cook Earn MIAA Player of the Week Honors

    KANSAS CITY, MO — After a great performance on Saturday by the Gorillas, a few members of head coach Tom Anthony’s squad received MIAA Athlete of the Week honors.

    Kicker Austin Schmitt matched a school single-game record with four field goals in Pitt State’s 19-3 victory over the Bulldogs. Scoring 12 points for the Gorillas, Schmitt made kicks from: 22 yards, 33 yards, and two from 36 yards. Schmitt was also named Division II Special Teams Player of the Week by D2Football.com.

    On the defensive side, senior linebacker Thomas Cook was named MIAA co-Defensive Athlete of the Week. Cook was joined by Benyon Williams of Fort Hays State who also picked up honors this week. With a career day against Ferris State, Cook had five tackles and a sack, as well as forcing a fumble in the victory.

    The Gorillas will travel to take on Missouri Southern on Saturday, September 7th at 7 p.m.
