PITTSBURG, KS — The Pittsburg Purple Dragons have finished with a winning record in three consecutive seasons, and head coach Josh Lattimer’s squad appears to be poised to continue their winning ways.

Pittsburg wasted no time getting the offense going against Emporia, scoring two 1st quarter touchdowns including a rushing touchdown just six minutes into the game.

Their second score of the night was more emphatic, as Conner Proffit took a pitch over 50 yards to the house.

The Purple Dragons special teams unit also came to play, recording a blocked punt returned for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-0 lead.

It was far from an ideal first half for Emporia, as the Spartans trailed 42-0 at the break.

Pittsburg took their foot off the gas pedal in the second half as the game would eventually finish 56-13 in the Purple Dragons favor.

Pittsburg begins the year with a 1-0 record looking ahead to another home matchup against Shawnee Mission South. Emporia on the other hand will look to regroup next time out, as the Spartans take on the West Pioneers in their first home game of the season.

Both games are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13.
