MIAMI, OK — The NEO A&M Golden Norsemen kicked off the season with a bang, upsetting No. 15 Butler Community College for their first win since 2022.

Looking to keep their momentum rolling in Week 2, the Norsemen had a tough challenge against Independence Community College for NEO’s first home game of the year.

There wasn’t much to write home about for either side in the first half, as Independence entered the break holding a 3-0 lead along with a lost fumble in the red zone and a missed field goal, two missed opportunities that could have extended the lead.

NEO’s defense held strong and came up with several big plays ranging from a forced fumble to a 4th-down stop in field goal range, but the offense struggled to get things going against a stout Pirates front seven.

The Norsemen punted every possession of the first half, but weren’t completely shut out as they got on the board in the second half with a touchdown.

Eventually, Independence’s fast-paced offense wore down the Norsemen and opened the scoring floodgates, going on to win this one 22-7 over the hosts.

Indy moves to 2-0 on the year while NEO falls to 1-1. The Norsemen will be back in action next week on the road against Navarro College, and the Pirates will be taking on Butler Community College.

Both games are set to kickoff a 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14.
