JOPLIN, MO – Looking to kickoff MIAA Conference play, the Pitt State Gorillas traveled to Missouri Southern State to match up against the Lions in the annual Miners Bowl.

Pitt State started off their season with a win versus number three ranked Ferris State, while MSSU fell to Midwestern State University Texas in week one.

With the Lions having a chip on their shoulder, Colton Bass started things off by reading a pass thrown by Chad Dodson up the sideline perfectly. His interception set the tone early for both sides of the ball.

Ensuing possession, Luke Sampson fired a pass to Draper Parker in stride.

Parker would sprint his way into the endzone for six and give the Lions the early 7-0 lead.

Retaliating on the other end in the second quarter, Pitt State would go on to score 14 unanswered points to take a 14-7 lead.

The next offensive possession the Gorillas had consisted of Dodson finding Jack Roberts off of a play action pass. Roberts showed off his speed wheeling up the sideline and crossed the pylon for the touchdown.

The offensive momentum would only continue for Pitt State. Redshirt senior Noah Hernandez would go on to lead the Gorillas with two touchdowns on the night.

Pitt State will return home on September 14th at 7:00pm versus Emporia, while Missouri Southern will travel to Missouri Western State University at 6:00pm.
