MIAA Men’s Golf preseason coaches polls announced

JOPLIN, MO – On Monday, September 9th, the MIAA Men’s Golf preseason coaches polls were released for the 2024-25 season.

Missouri Southern was picked fourth, while Pitt State was picked 10th.

For the Lions last year, the team claimed both the regular season and tournament conference championships for the second consecutive season. Luis Limon was named the MIAA Golfer of the Year, and Mike Wheeler was named MIAA Golf Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Missouri Southern received 59 points in the polls.

For Pitt State, the team received 17 points and are returning to intercollegiate play for the first time in 10 years after the program was suspended following the 2013-14.

The Gorillas also return head coach Nick Long who welcomes a 10-member squad into the season split between one graduate student, four juniors, a sophomore, and four freshman.

Both teams concluded their first tournament at the University of Central Missouri’s The Mule. Missouri Southern placed 16th as a team going +52 on the day, while Pitt State placed 14th shooting +50.

Next up, both teams will compete at the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational Tournament at Shangri La Golf Resort in Monkey Town Oklahoma Monday September 23rd, through Tuesday September 24th.
