GROVE, Okla. — On Thursday, the newest Marshalls Department Store held a grand opening in Grove, and donated $10,000 to an abused children’s organization.

The Grove High School band and cheerleaders welcomed the early shoppers before 8 a.m.

Marshalls celebrated the grand opening with a $10,000 donation to the Delaware County Children’s Special Advocacy Network.

“We are so excited to have Marshalls in Grove and so excited for this donation,” said Jill McAbee, DCCSAN director. “We plan to use the money for direct services for local victims of child abuse,”

DCCSAN provides forensic interviewing, counseling, court preparation, and crisis intervention for Delaware County children.

The agency wants to be sure every child in this county who has been a victim is going to get what they need to heal from the abuse, such as counseling, she said.

“We are just as much invested in justice for kids as we are healing for kids,” McAbee said. “Justice and healing go hand in hand.”

McAbee said some of the money will go to fund brave packs, which contain comfort items for children.

“When they [a child] leaves our building, we want them to have something in hand that is a physical illustration that somebody cares,” McAbee said.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Grove,” said Mayor Ed Trumbull. “This has transformed our community.

Known as “Shoppes of Grove,” the former Wal-Mart building was remodeled into Grove Event Center, and then more remodeling turned it into a three-boutique mall.

“The transformation is unbelievable,” Trumbull said.

With Starbucks yards away, it’s bringing more opportunities to Grove, he said.

Grove City Manager Debbie Bottoroff said the Sept. 6 opening of Bealls and Marshalls will have a snowball effect on other retail businesses.

“Hopefully, other retail businesses will follow suit, bringing more business into Grove,” Bottoroff said.

Shoppes of Grove also contains a “Ross Dress for Less” store, which is expected to open in October.
