FRONTENAC, KS – The Girard Lady Trojans took on the Liberal Lady Bulldogs in one of their many games during the Frontenac Volleyball Invitational Tournament on Saturday, September 14th.

The 12 teams that participated in the tournament were Frontenac, Chanute, Columbus, Jasper, Louisburg, Fort Scott, Cherryvale, St. Mary’s Colgan, Pittsburg, Riverton, Girard, and Liberal.

Starting off hot on court two was the Girard defense.

Lady Trojan’s Maddie Coester had a huge block in the front to get things going, and she wasn’t done yet.

Coester would light a match under the Girard offense as well with a spike that gave the Lady Trojans the early lead in Set 1.

On the other side of the net, for the Lady Bulldogs, they would also start their rhythm on defense.

Kale Hatfield would rise high off the ground to stop the ball from getting over the net after a hard hit from Girard’s Erika Boatman.

Defense turnt offense for Liberal as Kerri Borghardt set one over to Tegan Dryer, showing off her power for another Bulldogs score.

However, Liberal was unable to hold on down the stretch.

Lady Trojan’s Graci Murphy would then set one over to Boatman as she spiked one down to put the icing on the cake as Girard went on to capture the victory 2-0.

Girard went on to dominate both sets winning by a score of 25-11 in each.

Capping off the tournament on the day Chanute went on to win the Consolation Bracket, as Louisburg took home the Gold Bracket Championship.
