ST. JOSEPH, MO – Coming into the weekend, the Missouri Southern State Lions were in search for their first win of the season. After a tough loss to the Missouri Western Griffons 35-17, finding a win is still the struggle.

A tough first half to start for the Lions on the road and Griffon’s Elijah Campbell made it even worse to start the half. He would go on to score a touchdown all the way up the length of the field after forcing a Missouri Southern turnover.

However, gaining some ground on the next few possessions was Deontay Campbell. He secured a one handed grab to put the Lions in scoring position.

Victor Chionuma for Southern would finish off the play in the endzone after receiving a pass from quarterback Luke Sampson.

The late scoring from the Lions was too little too late as Head Coach Atiba Bradley says this week of preparation is going to be all about starting each game off strong.

“There’s not a lot of a difference between the best team and the worst team in the MIAA,” Bradley mentions.

“The difference is your mentality. The difference is how you approach the game. We have to figure out how to get those little things that aren’t even related to X’s and O’s out of the way, so that we can start winning some games. It really was two different football teams from the first half to the second half and we have to dial in and figure out what the deal is,” Bradley adds.”

The Lions will look to bounce back next week at home versus Northwest Missouri State as kick off is set for 2:00pm on Saturday, September 21st.
