Miami school teacher hit with two protective orders for allegedly strangling two boys

MIAMI, Okla. — The actions of a Miami School District Spanish instructor and coach accused of assaulting two teenage boys may be facing criminal charges, but for now, he is still a school employee.

Charles Murnan Preaus, 42, of Miami, is the subject of two protective orders filed by Miami residents involving two teenage boys.

KSN/KODE does not identify the parents who filed the protective order to protect the minors’ identities. One teen is a Cherokee Nation citizen.

A message left on Preaus’ social media account seeking comment was not returned. The coach/bus driver’s social media accounts state he was previously employed at Quapaw and Fairland schools.

Both boys had multiple abrasions; one teen had a “black eye,” “busted lip,” and “busted blood vessels in his left eye,” the protective order states.

The protective orders state that on Sept. 12, the two teenage boys, ages 13 and 14, were walking on a public street near Preaus’s residence when an intoxicated Preaus allegedly yelled at the boys, cursing, and then began following the teens when the boys told him their ages. They didn’t know who he was, according to the protective orders.

The boys alleged in the protective orders, Preaus followed them for around 500 yards and pushed one boy up against a tree, where he started strangling the boy. Preaus allegedly turned on the second boy and began strangling him.

District Attorney Doug Pewitt said the Miami Police Department is investigating the incident, and he will review the completed investigation to determine whether his office will file criminal charges.

David Frazier, Miami Public Schools spokesman, said Preaus is “a Miami Public Schools employee.” Frazier declined to comment on whether Frazier was on paid administrative leave, citing confidentiality issues.

Preaus reportedly confessed to Miami Police officers he carries a pistol, and it was located in the garage/residence, the protection order states.

Preaus, who in May received a one-year deferred sentence on a misdemeanor driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol charge, violated probation by allegedly being intoxicated and carrying a weapon.

Preaus is to appear in court on Sept. 24.
