WEBB CITY, MO — Webb City football enters week four with a 1-2 record. After a tough road loss to Kickapoo, the Cardinals come back home to host Ozark on Friday.

While the speed of team quarterback Jackson Lucas has been a huge plus for the Cardinals, head coach Ryan McFarland’s squad is looking to match their success from last season.

In his second year at the helm, McFarland said Ozark could prove to be a tough matchup because of the experience they bring back on defense.

“They’re a 1-2 football team with losses to Carthage and Republic, two really good teams that have played really well over the years. Last year we played them and they didn’t start a single senior on defense, this year they have 12 seniors on defense,” said McFarland.

Quarterback Jackson Lucas put emphasis on perfecting the details, and avoiding making small mistakes.

“Little things are causing us to make some big mistakes,” said Lucas.

“It’s just about critiquing and correcting those smaller things, and perfecting the details.”

Senior free safety Brody Eggleston mentioned that the team needs to have a fast start in the second half.

“We have to be a better second half football team,” said Eggleston.

“We’ve just got to keep the intensity up and make sure we’re all playing hard, as well as knowing our alignment and assignment.”

The Cardinals will host Ozark and the Tigers on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.
