JOPLIN, MO – Still in search for their first win, the Missouri Southern State Lions fell again in Week 4 to the Northwest Missouri State Riverhawks 59-0 as they drop to 0-4 on the year.

The first half was a 28-0 shutout by the Riverhawks.

Trying to spark some defense for the Lions to start the second half was Brian Lively. He would power through the Northwest offensive line to get the sack and give Missouri Southern the ball back.

However, on the next offensive possession for the Lions, quarterback Luke Sampson would scramble out of the pocket and throw a pick six to Sebastian Mataele, as the Riverhawks continued to run up the score.

Another downside to this play was Lions top target Deontay Campbell was seen limping off the field due to an apparent knee injury. He would go on to have zero targets on the day.

Northwest’s Danny Armstead would put up another touchdown down the stretch in the fourth quarter to end the game a 59-0 blowout.

Despite the slow start the Lions have had to start the year, head coach Atiba Bradley says he still has full faith in his team to turn things around.

“There’s got to be some good,” Bradley says.” I know on a lopsided loss like this it feels like everything was bad and we should cancel the season, but that’s definitely not the case…the other part of it is that we have a good football team. Their record doesn’t indicate how good they are.”

The Lions will look to bounce back next Saturday, September 28th, as they hit the road to Broken Arrow Oklahoma to match up against Northeastern State at 3:00pm.
