PITTSBURG, KS — After a big performance against Labette County on Friday night, Pittsburg football’s Conner Proffitt is this week’s Athlete of the Week.

Proffitt is known by many as one of the hardest workers on and off the field.

“If we had 100 Conner Proffitts on our team, we’d be really good,” said Pittsburg head football coach Josh Lattimer.

The Pittsburg senior has made quite the name for himself on the football field in 2024. Scoring touchdowns brings him back to how he felt when he found himself in the end zone for the very first time.

“A lot of the time, back when I was young, it was a really exciting feeling,” said Proffitt.

“It was something I had never experienced before.”

Realizing his potential early on, Proffitt’s mindset and approach to the game has always stayed the same.

“He’d beat me here to the school every morning,” said coach Lattimer. “And I usually show up around 5:00, and he would just beat me here to the school. He just leads by his actions and does the right thing.”

Garnering four touchdowns last week and continuing to show out in his senior season, the only thing Proffitt is worried about is winning.

“We’re looking to have a big year. One of our goals is to make a deep run in the playoffs and go 1-0 every week. One of my personal goals is to be all-state on both sides of the ball, and go on to play college football,” said Proffitt.

Proffitt and the Purple Dragons will travel to Fort Scott to face the Tigers on Friday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m.
