KANSAS CITY, MO — Pittsburg State Women’s Cross Country standout Kate Strader has been named the MIAA Athlete of the Week, the university announced Tuesday.

The Gorillas have competed in two tournaments thus far, taking first place in the season opener and second place out of 18 teams at the Missouri Southern Stampede. Pittsburg State’s early success is largely thanks to Strader’s efforts.

The redshirt senior has earned individual medalist honors in both meets, even setting a personal best time (17 minutes, 50.85 seconds) in the five-kilometer race at the Bearcat Cross Country Invitational.

Strader’s early success comes as no surprise to many, as the Mound City, Kansas native is fresh off a 2023-24 season that saw her earn All-MIAA honors and a nomination for the Ken B. Jones Award as the MIAA Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Strader and the Pittsburg State Women’s Cross Country team will be back in action on Saturday, October 12 in the Chargers Cross Country Invitational held in Huntsville, Alabama.
