JAY, Okla. — A Jay woman is in police custody for allegedly taking her 14-year-old son from his legal guardians.

The Jay Police Department confirmed Thursday night that Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies located Charla Sharp and her teenage son.

“They are safe, and she is in custody at the Delaware County jail,” said Jay Police Officer Todd Stanley.

Jay Police Officer Nick Brown said that earlier in the day, Sharp allegedly approached the teen at his guardian’s residence and asked him to go with her.

Brown said the teen went with his mother voluntarily, but he was removed from his mother’s care. He said Sharp wasn’t allowed to pick up the teen.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact the Delaware County Children’s Special Advocacy Network at (918) 253-4539 if they suspect any child is a victim of abuse.
