JOPLIN, MO — The Joplin Eagles and Republic Tigers faced off in an exciting, high-scoring contest that saw both squads tack on at least five touchdowns.

Both squads were trading blows throughout the entirety of the first half, but the key difference maker was a scoop-and-score fumble recovery touchdown by Collis Jones in the second quarter.

Immediately after the big defensive touchdown, Republic tied things up, but Toryn Jones made a huge play on a 61-yard rushing touchdown to put the Eagles back on top.

Halftime saw the Eagles hold a 24-21 lead, but things got dicey in the third and fourth quarters.

While the defense continued to surrender points in the second half, the offense stalled out and couldn’t keep up with the Tigers’ explosive-play ability.

When it was all said and done, Republic left Joplin with a 49-38 win over the Eagles.

Both teams have a tough challenge to look ahead, with Joplin taking on Carthage and Republic taking on Webb City. Both games are slated for Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
