JOPLIN, MO — The Joplin Area Sports Hall of Fame honored its 2024 class on Thursday evening. Four members were inducted from various different backgrounds and sports.

Brandon Williams, one of the inductees, is a former MSSU star defensive tackle who went on to have a strong 10-year career in the NFL.

“It means a lot to me,” said Williams. “This night is big because it pretty much brings it all together with the hard work, sweat, and dedication.”

Williams was selected by the Ravens in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft, where he played his first nine seasons. Williams finished his 10th and final season with the 2022 Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Inducted along with Williams was MSSU softball legend Shally Lundien. Introduced by Southern softball coaching legend Pat Lipira, Lundien was the winner of many accolades during her playing days. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the program, Lundien was a first team all-American in 1995 and was selected as female athlete of the year.

“It’s such an honor,” said Lundien. “It was unexpected, and I when I got the phone call, I thought about all of the years of hard work and love of the game that made it possible.”

Joining Williams and Lundien as MSSU alums, former Missouri Southern 1972 national champion Ray Harding was also inducted. Harding quarterbacked the then 12-0 Lions under head coach Jim Frazier. Following his playing days, Harding went on to coach in spending 16 seasons at Carthage High School.

“The people you meet, the things you see, just gives you more desire to continue what’s important in your life,” said Harding. “For me, it’s always been athletics.”

Keith Adams was also inducted on Thursday after decades of both playing and officiating. Starting his basketball officiating career in 1949, Adams’ experience spans over several sports from basketball, to volleyball, and football.

“I think God has blessed me my whole life,” said Adams.

“I’m just glad that he’s guided me through because I truly believe that I’m blessed.”

Each inductee arrived with their families and received a plaque for their contributions to athletics in the four state area.
