Webb City volleyball takes down Carl Junction behind Rutledge’s 20-kill performance

CARL JUNCTION, MO — Webb City volleyball hit the road on Monday night against the one-loss Carl Junction bulldogs and came away with a thrilling 3-1 victory.

In the first set, the Bulldogs looked to take revenge with a fast start. Off a Cardinals serve, Carl Junction’s Jadyn Howard bumped it to Caitlyn Kennedy and slammed it down for the kill. The Bulldogs would take the first set, but needed 30 points to do so.

In the following set, however, the Cardinals recovered. In a long rally, featured in a set that wasn’t close, Savannah Crane assisted Jaeli Rutledge who showed off the power and got the kill for the Cardinals. Winning the next set big, Webb evened the match at one apiece.

The Cardinals and Bulldogs both traded blows in the third set. Each team went toe-to-toe via back and forth points, but Rutledge shut the door with an emphatic kill to put her Cardinals up 2-1.

In the fourth set, with Crane serving for the Cardinals, the Bulldogs tried to rally, but the ball ended up back in Crane’s hands. Crane bumped it to Rutledge, who then tapped it over the net for the win. Behind Rutledge’s 20-kill performance, Webb City gave CJ just its second loss of the season.

The Cardinals will face Parkview on Tuesday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m. and the Bulldogs will travel to Marshfield on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
