PITTSBURG, Kan. — Grant funding means a local university will be able to help families who may have an autistic child.

The Kansas Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence is giving Pittsburg State University $40,000. That money will pay for a research program evaluating children who may have autism and offer parents initial support.

Dr. Paige Boydston has been working in the field of autism for more than 20 years and says it’s a much-needed focus in our area.

“Research and finding ways to increase access to services. Especially in this area because there’s not really access to diagnostics. There’s not a lot of access to treatment options,” said Dr. Boydston.

The evaluations are expected to start next spring.
