Authorities search for suspect in assault case, surround home in Jasper County

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Just before 1:30 this afternoon, authorities received a tip that a man wanted for assault in Cherokee County might be in a home on Belle Centre Road north west of Joplin.

Agents from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Carthage Police Department surrounded the home.

They called out to the suspect through a bullhorn, and used flash bangs in both the home and an outbuilding to get him to come out.

Law enforcement entered that outbuilding, home, and RV but didn’t find who they were looking for.

Officers were searching for Joshua Ferguson, 38, of Riverton.

He’s wanted in connection to an incident in May of 2023, when Cherokee County deputies say he shot at a family member multiple times. That person was not injured.

Ferguson is wanted on charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and criminal threat. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact local law enforcement.
