MIAMI, OK — Miami Wardogs softball is off to state! Head coach Lauren Strack’s team departed from Miami High School early on Wednesday afternoon.

After taking down Wagoner last Thursday, Miami softball punched its ticket to Oklahoma City for the state championships. Fans, Friends, and parents gathered to celebrate as the team boarded the bus for the trip.

“Knowing how hard they work and how much effort and love they put into the game, it’s completely deserved,” said Miami head softball coach Lauren Strack. “It makes me proud that they get to represent, not just our school, but a whole part of our state.”

Miami junior pitcher and UMKC commit D’naya Green said the community bond and support for the team is unique and special.

“Having everybody always supporting us here, having the girls always supporting me and everybody else, is a feeling that not every high school community gets to have,” said Green. “So it feels really good.”

Miami senior shortstop and Mizzou commit Sidney Forrester said, with this being her final year, finishing off the season in Oklahoma City is that much more special.

“It hit me after we beat the ranked 2 seed, coming off of being ranked the last seed out of all 16 teams,” said Forrester. “It really hits you hard, especially with me being a senior, so I’m really excited for this journey down to OKC.”

Miami will play Blanchard in the quarterfinals in Oklahoma City on Thursday, October 17, at 5:00 p.m.
