NEVADA, Mo. — What used to be an old pool on the campus of Cottey College in Nevada is now a second gym inside the Hinkhouse Center.

Its name is the Sophia Gymnasium in honor of Sophia Zetmeir, who donated a large portion of the $850,000 needed to convert the space.

And, although the space can be used to practice basketball or volleyball, its main purpose is to house the school’s new archery program, which will start up next year.

“It was a very large space that could be utilized in a better way so we have launched our archery program and we’re hoping to get around twelve athletes for our season next year so this is going to be a great sized facility for us,” said Sarah Trout, Cottey College Head Archery Coach.

Trout says the space will not only be used for practice — she hopes to be able to hold some archery meets there, as well.
