WEBB CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after a house fire Thursday night in Webb City.

According to Webb City Fire Department, a house at 604 S Oronogo Street was ablaze just after 10 p.m. Thursday. Crews arrived minutes later to find the single-family structure throwing heavy smoke into the sky.

Units from Joplin and Dueweg assisted with extinguishing the fire and searching the remnants.

Fire crews found one adult man during their sweep of the inside, now identified as Wyatt Fieker, 50, of Webb City. Fieker was the only occupant in the building at the time of the fire. The cause of death has yet to be declared by the Jasper County Coroner.

Officials have not determined whether the property had working smoke alarms, they added.

The fire was extinguished before 11 p.m. The cause remains under investigation with the state fire marshal now assisting, but investigators do believe it was accidental.
