GROVE, OK – A Baxter Springs man was killed, and his friend is being held in the Delaware County jail on a first-degree murder complaint, Delaware County Sheriff James Beck confirmed on Friday.

Jared Beach, 32, was fatally shot by a handgun, said Capt. Jackie Smithson.

Adam Levi Cole, 35, is held in the Delaware County jail without bail.

Smithson said the fatal shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. under a carport awning in the Holiday Shores area at Cole’s in-law’s house.  Holiday Shores is west of Grove, past Sail Boat Bridge.

Smithson did not release the names of Cole’s in-laws or his wife.

“Beach was a friend of both individuals,” Smithson said.  “There was no romantic relationship between Beach and Cole’s wife.”

A preliminary investigation shows Cole had been at the mobile home, and when Beach arrived, an argument ensued, leading to the shooting, he said.

Cole’s wife was inside the mobile home when the fatal shooting happened, Smithson said.

we were at a place of business last night in Baxter and my son went in, he is always a very polite young man and said, " hello Miss, hows your day going?" he said her reply chilled him to the bone she said, "my boyfriend was just murdered" he stopped and took a closer look at her and noticed at that point that she had been crying. He came back to the car and told me and asked me, "mom how do you respond to that? l was in shock and didn't know what to say back, l just said I'm so sorry." Sending prayers for this mans loved ones.
