Pittsburg Football Takes Down Chanute in Overtime

CHANUTE, KS — The Pittsburg Purple Dragons defeated the Chanute Blue Comets 41-35 in an exciting back-and-forth contest that finished in overtime.

Pittsburg struck first with a passing touchdown by Carsen Nickelson to Conner Proffitt, but Chanute answered back with a passing TD of their own from Kris Harding to Cade Small.

Despite the last name, Small had a big performance as he would catch a 65-yard game-tying touchdown to make it 14-14 in the second quarter.

Even with an explosive play and a narrow 20-14 lead at halftime, Chanute was unable to slam the door shut on Pittsburg as the Purple Dragons continued to have an answer for anything the Blue Comets did offensively.

Trailing by six at the break, Pittsburg rallied together to send this one to overtime where the Purple Dragons came out on top.

With the win, Pittsburg improves to 5-2 while Chanute suffers its second loss of the season, moving to 5-2 overall as well.

Both schools will be in action next week for the final regular season game of the year. Pittsburg is set to face Topeka while Chanute will take on Labette County.

Both games are slated for Friday, October 25 with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
