    Motorized bicycle rider killed in collision on Interstate 49

    JOPLIN, Mo. — The driver of a motorized bicycle is dead after being struck by an SUV on Interstate 49.

    The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it happened last night (Saturday) around 8:35, about a mile south of Jasper.

    The SUV was traveling northbound when it hit the motorized bicycle from behind, which killed David Baughman, 21, from Lamar.

    He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The 71-year-old driver of the SUV was not injured.

    Motorized bicycles can only be ridden on roads with a speed limit that’s slower than the bicycle’s speed.

    This is Troop D’s 89th fatality of the year.
