Carl Junction Police Chief Mark McCall confirmed Berry had originally been injured off-duty when he fell off a golf cart, just after 6:00 p.m. on Fairway Drive in the Briarbrook subdivision.

The police department is now working the incident, and it is still under investigation.

Fire officials say Berry also was part of the Redings Mill Fire Protection District and multiple volunteer organizations.

The Monett Rural Fire District calls him a “respected local firefighter… whose perpetual smile and joyful spirit left an indelible mark.”

    Berry was 21 years old.
