Atlanta Middle School Earns National Distinction
As part of a national recognition program, the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform and the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals have designated Atlanta Middle School in Atlanta, Texas, and Atlanta ISD as a Texas School to Watch. Atlanta Middle School joins approximately 55 other campuses across Texas with this distinction and honor.
Miller County EHC Crafting Comfort
With 40 active members in Miller County, the Extension Homemakers Club has been busy crafting. Crafting, not for aesthetic purposes, but comfort. Among some of the items crafted and donated by the Miller County EHC are knitted/crocheted red toboggans for babies born in February. EHC members from Miller County and Polk County have worked together to create these caps which have been delivered to local hospitals.
Atlanta High School Students Advance to State Film Festival
Atlanta High School audio/video production students will attend the University Interscholastic League State Film Festival in Austin on Feb. 22, where their film is among the top six 1A-3A narrative films in the state.
TMS to Host Dinner Exploring Soul Food in Southern Culture at P. J. Ahern Home
Texarkana, Arkansas– Many of the dishes we enjoy in the South have their roots in African American culture. Join the Texarkana Museums System (TMS) at the P. J. Ahern Home on Saturday, February 25, 6:00-7:30 p.m. for an evening of food and history exploring the question, “Appreciation or Appropriation? Soul Food in Southern Culture.” Guests will enjoy a combination of traditional dishes and modern interpretations catered by Dre’Licious Dishes. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are just $40 each or $30 for TMS Members. Deadline is Thursday, February 23. A&M-Texarkana to Host Preview Day on February 17th
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana will host its spring preview day on Friday, February 17th. The event, open to anyone interested in attending A&M-Texarkana and their families, will take place on the A&M-Texarkana campus from 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The first 200 students to attend will receive a free t-shirt.
Celebrate Black History Month At Texarkana College with Community Influencers
February 14, 2023– Texarkana College is celebrating Black History Month by hosting a panel discussion with Black professionals who are considered influencers within their career fields and our community. The public is invited to attend the event which will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, in TC’s Truman Arnold Student Center from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. Robert Jones, TC’s Dean of Students and faculty advisor for the Black Student Association, said panel members represent professionals from various career fields including banking, finance, mental health, public safety, health care, and appliance maintenance.
Arkansas House Fifth Week Report 2023
On the 5th week of the Regular Session, the House passed legislation addressing substance abuse, teen pregnancy, public assistance, and transportation. The House passed HB1144. This bill creates the Arkansas Family Treatment Specialty Court Act.

Texarkana, AR: The Fifth Annual Wagon’s for Veterans Cookout will be this Saturday, March 11, at the Four States Fairgrounds in Texarkana, Arkansas. The event will last from 11 am to 4 pm. One Hundred percent of all proceeds and donations go directly to needy veterans and their families. According to representatives for the event, the organization has no overhead costs such as staff, etc. All workers are volunteers for the event.

Grand Opening And Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For The McCulloch Industrial Technology Center On The Texarkana College Campus
Texarkana, TX: Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11:00, Texarkana College is hosting a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newest workforce training facility in our region. The McCulloch Industrial Technology Center will house the Electrical Technology, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) training programs and skills labs. The 15,000 sq. ft. building is equipped with state-of-the-art training equipment that replicates the equipment used in today’s residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects.

The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana will host a community Black History Month celebration entitled “Paying It Forward” at Hempstead Hall on Wednesday, February 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The free event will feature guest speaker Sean Penix.
