TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — A wildfire broke out Saturday afternoon near the border of Tooele County and Juab County, and some campers have evacuated their campgrounds.

State wildfire officials said the "Boulter Fire" was first discovered around 1:30 p.m. along State Route 36. It's located about three miles north of the county line.

The fire quickly spread due to strong winds in the area. By 7:30 p.m., it had grown to an estimated 3,000 acres. Officials said the wind is pushing it eastward into the Tintic Mountains north of Eureka.

SR-36 is closed between mileposts 3 and 11.

State officials said evacuations took place between Vernon and Eureka. The Utah County Sheriff's Office specified that the evacuations were campers. The fire got between 6-8 miles of Five Mile Pass, a popular off-roading area.

By Saturday night, officials said the fire's growth had slowed, possibly even stopped.

Salt Lake City Police added that although the fire isn't near the city, residents may see or smell smoke in the air because of the fire as the wind blows in their direction.
