Parents in a Lehi neighborhood were warned Monday morning to not let their children walk to school after a mountain lion was spotted in the area.

The Lehi City Police Department reported the animal was observed in the area of Woods Drive.

Officers provided extra patrolling in the area as the Division of Wildlife Resources attempted to find what is believed to be a young mountain lion. However, as of Monday afternoon, the animal had not been found.

Lehi police said there have no incidents of other animals having been killed, so they don't believe the mountain lion is a threat, including during the afternoon hours.

Parents and children are still being told to use caution and stay alert until the animal is found, and households should consider bringing their pets inside.

The police department said Monday night that they had set traps, but had not yet caught the animal.
