HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – For the first time in the school’s 51-year history, the Central Arkansas Christian boys’ basketball team can finally call themselves state champions.

The Mustangs defeated Bergman 57-47 to claim their first-ever Class 3A boys state title on Thursday at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs.

CAC was led by senior guard Sam Maddox and junior guard Lane Baxter, who both scored 16 points, making four three-point field goals.

The Panthers fell just short, but the Lady Panthers sealed the deal against the Greyhounds. Bergman defeated Salem 56-33 in the Class 3A girls state championship.

Sophomore guard Taryn Holt led the way for the Lady Panthers, scoring a game-high 15 points. Junior guard Kiersten Lowry and senior center Savannah Ketchum also contributed 10 and 12 points.
