Harding University students excited for move-in day

SEARCY, Ark. – As the school year starts, college students in Arkansas are moving in for the year.

Lexi Howell left her home in Charlotte, North Carolina to move into her new home, Harding University.

“So, we just spent some hours setting up a lot of stuff,” Howell said.

Howell and her parents like several others made numerous trips back and forth in the heat and up and down stairs to get settled in.

“It was hot at first and thank goodness we got here early because we were able to get everything inside before it got too hot,” Howell said.

Not only is it a new stage of life for Howell, but also her parents. They said she is the last kid to leave the house and start college.

“It’s mixed feelings, we’re excited for her,” Andrea Howell said, “And then it’s sad for her to be so far from us, so we anticipate we will be here probably quite a bit.”

Student Life vice-president Zach Neal said they’ll kick off orientation for students Wednesday night.

“This is the first time this becomes home, we get to welcome that, we get to create that,” Neal said.

Around 1000 students moved in Wednesday and more will move in over the next several days.
Howell said she’s ready to start her career as a Bison.

“I’m really excited,” Howell said.

They have some last-minute Walmart runs and a few more pictures to hang before she’s completely ready to start the year but she’s ready nonetheless. Classes at Harding start on Monday.
