LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The superintendent of the Little Rock School District has announced his resignation after two years heading the district.

In a letter sent to LRSD board president Michael Mason, Dr. Jermall Wright announced that he would be resigning as the district’s superintendent.

Wright also noted in the letter several accomplishments that the district achieved in the two years he was the superintendent.

“With all that has been accomplished and all that remains to be done, it is critical that the LRSD Board of Education employ a superintendent whose leadership style, priorities, and core values align with the direction and actions of the school board,” Wright wrote. “This is the only way the LRSD can flourish.”

Wright was tapped to be the district’s superintendent in 2022. Before his time at LRSD, Wright served as the superintendent for the Mississippi Achievement School District.

LRSD Board President Michael Mason also sent out a letter following the news, saying that the district had made “significant strides” under Wright’s leadership.

“As we begin the process of identifying and transitioning to new leadership, I want to reassure you that the School Board remains fully committed to the continued success of our District, our students, and staff,” Mason said. “We are actively working to ensure that a new superintendent is named in a timely manner and are in the process of outlining a comprehensive transition plan.”
