WHITE COUNTY, Ark. – A highway crash on Thursday in White County left a sheriff’s deputy and several inmates injured.

Deputies said the deputy was transporting three inmates to Newport when he lost control of the vehicle on Highway 67/167. Officials with the Arkansas Department of Transportation reported the crash around 8:32 a.m.

Lt. Scott Seiders with the White County Sheriff’s Office said it’s their worst nightmare when things like this happen.

“There were two accidents, one involving the deputy, and one involving vehicles as traffic began piling up behind that accident,” Seiders said.

Seiders said the injured deputy loves coming to work and has been with the sheriff’s office for several years. Before that, the deputy also had a long career in several different areas as a first responder.

“He’s a very capable, well-respected deputy that’s always happy to be here and always happy to have him,” Seiders said.

Authorities said that everyone involved in the crash is expected to make a full recovery.

“But it’s a very trying time for us all,” Seiders said. “He’s very well-liked and we want a speedy recovery.”
