University of Central Arkansas moves in potential biggest freshman class to campus today

CONWAY, Ark.- Hundreds of volunteers bearing the heat while helping the University of Central Arkansas move its students to the residential halls.

“The volunteers that come out to help move in make it special, so I want to say a special thank you to them,” University of Central Arkansas President Houston Davis said.

According to Davis, the university expects 400 more students to live in the residential halls than last year.

One of those students is Sidni Vineyard, an excited freshman ready for the next chapter of life.

“It’s kind of that new, fresh, exciting thing that will happen, and I just can’t wait to experience it and see what goes on,” Vineyard said.

Vineyard also says that while she is excited, she is nervous about things starting and that she needs to say goodbye to her family.

She was also thankful for the volunteers who unloaded her car so she could spend more time with her family, making it a stress-free move-in day.

“I don’t have to do anything it’s great, I was expecting to have to walk up all the stairs by myself,” Vineyard said.

All these emotions are things that Student Orientation Staffer and move-in day volunteer Kaleb Vassar remembers from when he moved into UCA four years ago.

“I think to me it’s about giving back to, you know, the campus that gave me so much,” Vassar said. “When I came in 2020 you know and SOSer did it for me and I want to give that back as much as I can.”

President Davis is excited to have all the energy back on campus, and he is ready for classes to begin this Thursday.

“It is a great challenge to get everyone moved in in one day, but by the end of the evening we should have all of our freshmen at freshman convocation meet out on the stripes having a special little moment where the class will take a class photo, and at that point the fall semester is off and running,” Davis said.
