MAUMELLE, Ark. – Summer is officially over for students at Pulaski County Special School District, as many arrived back in class for the first day of school.

The district Superintendent, Dr. Charles McNulty, says he is excited for students to be back in school and they have a lot of things planned, especially for those on the high school level.

“We are really moving in the academy structure and that is where we have a strong relationship with our business for profit and nonprofit. Allowing our students to get the experiences as they go through high school and get the experience of peer readiness in the workplace,” McNulty said.

It’s the beginning of a new chapter for many students in the district. Khamryn Williams, who is a senior and the captain of the cheerleading squad at Maumelle High School says she is glad to be back.

“I’m really more excited to come in for my last first day and see how all the teachers I had before, get closer with the admin, my friends and being in school in general,” Williams said.

Ayda Lovett is also a senior and the captain of the school’s marching band. Lovett says she is looking forward to what the school year will bring.

“I’m excited for this new marching season. Our show is amazing and this is the best senior year show I could ever have,” Lovett said.
